Dressed to Impress: Four D.I.Y. Salad Dressings to Try This Spring:

25 Feb

West of Persia

Sometimes the best recipes are the simplest. Here’s a recipe my dad shared with me verbally on a recent visit. It was inspired, in part, by the eggplants then growing in the family garden.

Our conversation went something  like this:

Dad: “You know what you can do with this eggplant? Take a whole eggplant and roast it in  the oven.”

Me: “Do you have to poke holes in it? You know, to let the steam escape?”

Dad: “No, just let it roast really well until it starts to cave in on itself. You might have to turn it over once.

Then cook some onions in a pan on the stove for a few minutes. Then you add in some garlic. . .”

Me: “Do you add any spices to the onions and garlic?”

Dad: “No, just salt and pepper. Anyways, you cook the onions and garlic until they’re soft…

Body Scrub recipes

Spring is around the corner kurlies and you know what that means: we get to show a lil more skin. Check out these cheap and chic recipes below to make your own sugar scrubs so you can slough away that dead skin and uncover your skin’s satin smoothness and glow. Those with sensitive skin, I don’t recommend these recipes for you b/c they might make your sensitivity worse; irritate your skin more.

* 1 cup brown sugar

* 1/2 cup sweet almond oil

* a few drops of essential oil or fragrance body oil of choice

* some honey (this is optional but honey has loads of moisturizing properties so why not?)

* container to put it in (an old container or tupperware will do)

Instructions: Mix together the oils and honey in your container. Add the brown sugar and mix it up. Viola! Note that you can tweek the consistency to your liking. Some like more oil than sugar and others more sugar than oil. Play around with the proportions till you find the consistency that you like. Be light handed! There is no need to scrub hard or you will end up irritating your skin.

Here’s another sugar scrub recipe:

* 1 cup of sugar

* 1/2 cup to 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil

* lemon juice (optional)

* few drops of essential oil or body fragrance oil (optional)

Instructions are the same as the brown sugar scrub.

You can use whatever carrier oil you like in these scrub recipes. Experiment till you find the oil you like best. You can also do an oil blend; use more than one oil in your scrub. Again, experiment!

My favorite is the brown sugar scrub. Sweet almond oil is my favorite oil for scrubs. It feels divine after you’ve shaved or epilated your legs. I no longer shave and use an epilator now, so I do it after the I epilate and OMW (oh my wow), the shine and smoothness is bananas.

Nine Insights from Celestine Prophecy

2 Feb

1. Meaningful coincidences. We are at a point in the developmental history of human consciousness where development will accelerate. The major evidence for this is the increased number of meaningful coincidences people are noticing in their lives.

2. Historical perspective. This point in human history can best be understood by a revisioning of the past millennium. In the early part of the millennium, human consciousness was dominated by beliefs promulgated by the Catholic Church: one’s proper place in society, humanity at the center of the universe, and the battle between good and evil. These beliefs gave meaning to life. This domination was challenged during the Renaissance and Reformation. At that time, humanity established a grand project of exploring the world, using the tools of science, with the hope of getting a new answer to the meaning of life. While waiting for that answer to come in, attention turned to increasing material comfort. That project is now at an end–material comfort has been achieved, but we have lost touch with sources of meaning. Moreover, the answers we wanted are now appearing–not necessarily from institutional science, but from a variety of sources.

3. Subtle energy. There is an energy, previously undetected by science, that forms the basis of all things. Human perception of that energy starts with an increased awareness of beauty: people, animals, plants, ecosystems that have a high level of that energy appear particularly beautiful. By becoming aware of that energy, we become able to notice when and how we give and receive energy.

4. Competition for energy. A fundamental assumption underlies most human interactions: we must compete for this energy, drawing it from others and protecting ourselves from others’ attempts to draw it from us. This leads to some nasty interactions.

5. Energy abundance. In fact, competition is unnecessary because subtle energy exists in abundance. In particular, we can acquire more by eating plants which have high energy levels. (And we can ensure that the plants have high energy levels by paying attention to them, by giving them energy.) Being in a loving state not only connects our energy to the object of our love, but to a greater source of energy as well. This is the essence of mystical experience. The goal of mystical practice – and practice of the lessons of the Celestine Prophecy – is to get and remain connected with the energy. Moreover, a person’s energy is the source of the meaningful coincidences noticed in the First Insight. Each mystical experience stretches a person’s potential, causing them to exist “at a higher state of vibration”.

The best description of all this comes a little later in the book. Father Sanchez says, “Love is not an intellectual concept or a moral imperative or anything else. It is a background emotion that exists when one is connected to the energy available in the universe, which , of course, is the energy of God.” [page 153]

6. Getting clear. In order to be in a state of love with the world on a regular basis, we have to let go of patterns of behavior we developed to take energy from others.

First, we have to become aware of our “control dramas” and break our controlling habits. There are four control patterns or ways of causing others to give us energy, two actively demanding energy, two passively creating conditions in which energy is sent. “Active” control dramas include intimidation and interrogation – asking questions and then picking apart the answers. “Passive” control dramas include aloofness – creating an air of mystery that entices others to send energy–and “poor me”–creating a sense that if others don’t provide energy, something awful will happen to the controller.

Second, we have to “get clear” of our control dramas. We must understand our parents’ control dramas and how these shaped ours. Then we must learn what meaning our parents’ lives had for us, and how this determines our own developmental work. The things we would change about our parents – individually and together – are what we need to work on in our own lives.

7. Using intuition. When we are in touch with the energy, clear of our control dramas, and aware of the questions relevant to this moment, our intuition supplies the answers we need. Once we are aware of these answers, we need only watch for meaningful coincidences to show us how to act on them.

8. Relating to others. This insight comes in several pieces.

  • Children can be raised without control dramas if they have constant, undivided access to an adult who can give them the energy they need.
  • Development can be blocked by an “addiction to another person”. The subtle energy has a male and female side. If you can access one and someone else the other, then for a short time the couple can be filled with energy. But the focus on the other person eventually cuts each off from the universal energy. The two begin competing for energy, restarting control dramas. This is the falling-in-love/falling-out-of-love phenomenon.
  • Everyone who crosses our path has a message for us. We should give them energy and help them get clear so that they can accurately deliver the message.
  • Other people’s control dramas will break down if we name them and refuse to play a role in them.

9. Conscious evolution. This insight is a vision of culture in the next millennium.

Humans consciously participate in their evolution by living according to their intuition, which guides them in such a way as to increase their energy. Population decreases so much that most of the world can be allowed to return to wilderness, creating old-growth forests full of energy. The means of survival are automated and available to everyone. Their sense of purpose is satisfied by “the thrill of our own evolution”. People will consume less and work less so that they can work on their evolution. (Redfield is ambiguous about this: Lower consumption may not be necessary because people will pay you for your spiritual insights. “When people come into our lives at just the right time to give us the answers we need, we should give them money.” [page 226])

The goal of this evolution is to achieve a level of vibration that makes us invisible to others, perhaps even immaterial. Jesus was the first to do this, and sporadic individuals continue to do so. (The main character’s mentor does so in the conclusion of the book.) The ultimate goal is for large groups to “cross over” together in a “general rapture”. The Mayans are alleged to have done this.

I Want To Be Famous…On Purpose. (via Pretty Brown Girl™)

I Want To Be Famous...On Purpose. Yesterday I was in Borders reading Jay-Z's book Decoded. I wasn't really sure what to expect, however I was told that the book was fantastic, and I had a little time to kill. After reading the first few pages, I was sucked in…and I even came across something really thought provoking. In the intro to the book, Jay talks about finding his voice in hip-hop. Using Run DMC and Kurtis Blow as examples, he talked about the two predominant mindsets in … Read More

Heart Chakras

20 Nov

I know I began an introduction of Chakras earlier in my blog, and I was going to continue from the first chakra which is “root” and continue as such. But the creator always lead me and I was focusing on other things, ie. Universal Laws and The tree of Life.

But now I am back, in the quest to learn who I am, I have found I can not go any further until I open my heart Chakra. Mine is CLOSED. While I was getting my aura cleansed the facilitator advised me I was completely closed. It was also confirmed when another Teacher also found it was closed.

So now I am on a path to open my Heart Chakra because I can not go any further than where I am now until it is open.

Let me tell you how I am feeling. Right now, I don’t believe in love what so ever. I believe everyone is lying and don’t know what love is. So it is hard to receive love from anyone and even more so it is hard to even WANT to open my Heart Chakra.

Color: Green, Pink, and sometimes Gold

Element: Air

Sense: Touch

Fundamental Principle: Devotion, self-abandonment

Body Association: Heart, upper back, thorax and thoracic cavity, lower lungs, the blood and circulatory system and the skin

Gland: Thymus, which regulates and controls the lymphatic system

Gems/minerals: Emerald, green and pink tourmaline, malachite, green jade, green aventurine, chrysoprase, kunzite, rose quartz, ruby.

Feeding Your Heart Chakra

Healing Emotional Hurts

  • Leafy vegetables: spinach, kale, dandelion greens, etc.
  • Air vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, squash, etc.
  • Liquids: green teas
  • Spices: basil, sage, thyme, cilantro, parsley

Heart Chakra Exercises – Chakracise your heart chakra by doing push ups, swimming (breast stroke), and hugging yourself

A malfunctioning Heart Chakra may express itself in various ways. You may want to always be there for others and give freely, but consciously, you may want/expect recognition in return for all the love you give them. Then, if your efforts are not sufficiently appreciated, you may feel deeply disappointed.

You may also feel that you are strong and powerful enough to give away some of your stength but incapable of accepting the love that others may want to give you. In this way, you are unable to open yourself to receiving the love of others. Emotions aligned with tenderness and softness probably embarrass you and make you feel weak, vulnerable to injury and dependent upon the love and affection of others.

You are deeply hurt by rejection, especially after you gathered the courage to open yourself up. When this happens, you feel like withdrawing into your inner shell. You are sad and depressed. You want to give your love but your fear of being rejected makes it impossible. You feel you don’t know how to love, thus reinforcing your shortcomings and inability.

You may compensate for your lack of love by adopting an extremely friendly personality, treating people equally in an impersonal manner without genuine involvement. When your heart is called for, you may evade the situation and shut yourself off because you are afraid of possible injury. If your Heart Chakra is completely closed, you will express coldness, indifference or even “heartlessness.” You are completely out of balance and suffer from depression. Sadly, unhappiness is a way of life for you.

The 4th chakra (Heart Chakra) is located in the center of the breast at the height of your heart and opens toward the front. It is the center of the entire chakra system and connects the LOWER (Physical & Emotional Centers) to the three HIGHER (Mental & Spiritual Centers.)

The Heart Chakra is a very important chakra. With the Heart Chakra we find the capability to empathize and sympathize with others. We attune ourselves with the cosmic vibrations and perceive the beauty in nature, music, visual arts and poetry. Here, all images, words and sounds are transformed into feelings.

With every negation and rejection, we regenerate separation and negativity, whereas a positive and loving acceptance (a conscious “yes”) produces vibrations which neutralize (kill, so to speak) negative thoughts and feelings. Simply put, you can neutralize those intense feelings of grief, anger or despair with your loving, unbiased and undivided attention — positive thoughts and feelings.

With our Heart Chakra, we possess a great potential for healing others as well as ourselves. If you suffer from pain or illness, send the afflicted organ or area of your body your loving attention and it will help and accelerate the recuperation period enormously. If we can learn to love from the depths of our own heart and fully accept our entire personality, an opened Heart Chakra can have a spontaneous healing or transforming influence on ourselves and others.

The Heart Chakra radiates colors of green, pink, and sometimes gold. Green is the color of healing and sympathy and harmony. If an enlightened person (ie. someone who can see human auras) perceives a clear, light-green in a person’s heart chakra, this would indicate a well-developed capability to heal, while a golden aura mixed with pink would show a person who lives in pure and selfless love of the Divine.

Within the Heart Chakra is the deepest and most vivid feelings of love. It also plays an important role in refining the perception of an open Third Eye, and it is for this reason that the spiritual schools in the East concentrate particularly on the opening of the Heart Chakra.

Working in harmony with all the other chakras, a completely open Heart Chakra can change the world around you and unite, reconcile, or even heal the person within your surroundings. Your entire being radiates natural warmth, sincerity and happiness. These wondrous energies open the hearts of the people around you, inspiring confidence and creating joy among them. A great compassion and willingness to help others comes perfectly natural to you.

You love for love’s sake. You are motivated by the joy of giving and do not expect to gain anything in return. Your heart is in everything you do. You “unconditionally” love all!

Excercises to Open your Heart Chakra

Sit cross-legged. Let the tips of your index finger and thumb touch. Put your left hand on your left knee and your right hand in front of the lower part of your breast bone (so a bit above the solar plexus).
Concentrate on the Heart chakra at the spine, level with the heart.
Chant the sound YAM.

picture of position

Your breathing should be normal, but deep.

1. Sit erect in a straight-back chair. Shut out all sound as best as you can and prevent interruption.

2. Close your eyes and turn your attention toward your heart.

3. In your imagination, enter your heart.

4. To your surprised, you are now standing on a green plain in the countryside. The sky above you is bright pink. In front of you is a green, grassy hill, and on top of the hill is a temple. This temple is your heart. Hold this visualization.

5. Now climb the hill. You walk up the grassy slope to the temple. You climb the steps of the temple and enter the center doorway. Observe the appearance of the temple. Is it swept clean? Or is it covered with dust?

6. Walk into the dimly lit interior and approach the central adytum. As you near, you can see a flickering light within. The flame grows brighter as you approach. It swells and recedes rhythmically with your own heart beat in the bowl-like depression in the center of the room.

7. Gaze upon this flame. Send it your energies. See it respond to your energies, watch it grow bright and strong as it reaches up to touch the ceiling 40 feet above. You are feeding the flame of your heart. You are stimulating it to growth. Breathe deeply and realize in the depth of your being that your heart center is coming alive.

8. Open your eyes and sit in quiet meditation for 5 minutes before rising and terminating the exercises
